ottd olympics

Right not my country is gripped in Olympics fever and it got me thinking. Why can't we have our own?! I know it's just an idea, but it sounds epic. We could have a gold, silver and bronze medals for each 'event' (server) with each player representing their country or something and at the end we could see which country has the most medals. I don't consider this idea to be too far-fetched it's just a matter of acceptance. Please accept my idea, i really want to participate in an ottd olympics

Well i guess you'd both compete solo unless the long runs were doubles events

Okay, well, here are some suggestions as to how this could happen:

-each server is an 'event'
-two events per day
-players can compete in 4 events
-each event has a gold, silver & bronze for 1st, 2nd & 3rd
-each player represents their own country
-we have a medals table like the olympics
-we compete for most medals individually & most most medals per country
-perhaps a special olympic achievement for the winners?
-some events could be singles, some doubles i.e #8 long-run single event, 5# doubles event
-this would add variety
-announce a few days before and have us 'athletes' sign up for anything up for an event per day
-if all the spaces aren't taken then anyone who joins will automatically be competing whether they like it or not
-we have an opening ceremony
-we go on every server on the game and tell EVERYONE

-team GB will come top of the medals COME ON
-although i'll have to find a partner for the co-op events.
-also, a country is not allowed to have any more than two companies competing

What do you guys think? What are your ideas? I'm keen to find out and i'm excited by the possibility of this as it will be EPIC

i like it  but i think all long runs should be doubles but thats admins decision

Up for the good topic. I like cossack's ideas.

Main reason - we need more scheduled & organized tournaments!  ... not only for the countries, we could set up several custom teams from the active players. Those medals will be given for a scheduled games and the teams will compete for amount of those.

I agree batt, i've never played in a n-ice tournament before! Also, i like that idea and would i be right in thinking that not all players on a team would compete in the same events? i.e one company per team per event with 2 events a day

well...i think that u need to think of some details first...
1. how will u select which players should represent a country? what if 10 players from the same country want to join the olympics?(i suggest a few tournaments before-to select the eligible players)
2. i think that not every player can play on server 5, not everyone's pc can handle the pressure(we know what happened at the admin tournament when geert had some problems). i think it would cause some problems if every team/member builds like alex, geert or batt(only 3 of the main builders)
3. so, the teams will consist in how many players? this is something to think ahead, since there may be 3 players from a country and 5 from another
4. what do u suggest for the opening ceremony?
5. and at last...in what will consist the awards?(points, achievements)

and i agree with ur answer to 5, i also suggest to make some diplomas(i dunno if it is the right form of the word) and send them to their e-mail

1.It doesn't matter how many players there are. In the olympics there are countries with 1 athlete participating and others with 500. It wouldn't be unfair because athletes can compete at an individual level too. i.e I could be the only one representing the UK, but i could also get the most medals.
2.There's no way around that. If a players PC can't handle it then they should just play in the other event, they might get a gold medal either way.
3.see my ninth point. either one or two, depending on the event or atleast this is what i have proposed anyway
4.No clue, i just thought it sounded interesting
5. see my eighth point, an exclusive achievement like 'Gold Medal Olympian: Cossack' or something would be awesome!

Here's a less serious approach:
- Any player can choose to be any country he wants. - Ever wanted to be the fastest Jamaican alive? Well here's your chance.
- Short "events" (matches)

examples of events:
- First team to 1 mill with only buses
- Map with a huge lake in the middle and it's the first team to 1 mill with ships
- Map with snow and big hills (like skiing but with trains)
- I don't know if it's possible, but maybe you can have an event where you start with a forest that produces a fixed amount of wood and the first team to get all the wood to another location wins?


I definitely like the idea of doubles matches.

Another approach would be to get all the players that want to participate, then split them into a set amount of teams randomly. Anytime there is at least 1 member from each team on a server it becomes an Olympic match. The company with the highest score at the end gets some points. At the end of the week / month the points are tallied and the winning team is announced.
To have the most success I suggest only have 2-3 teams and many players per team. If a match is unbalanced like 1 company has 1 player and another 3 then so be it. It's just for fun after all. Also there will be more matches so you'll just have to have a rematch where you have 3 players and they have 1.
Again preferably short matches.
