Are the bans always this long? If I were banned for 2 months and a half  I probably wouldn't return or is that the idea?

Shouldn't a ban be a punishment to be learned from? Or is it just to keep a player away?

Usually bans are a week...2 weeks. But if you add up those periods for Cossack, then you come up with something like 2 months. Then, it is admin`s decision if a smaller or a bigger period should be issued... I issued another half month over the 2 months because he lies....he tries to deceive...he denies it all....he shows no remorse....he knew the rules and still broked them repeatedly.....because of the attitude he had against that player....and in the end...cause of his attitude for admins.

That`s why the extra half-month. And also cause of the fact that he had way too many chances....i added all his rule breaks. No reducing the ban cause of that

not every ban is that long - but longer bans also exist, up to permanent bans which are really meant to keep a player away. temporary bans are meant to give someone a chance to change and come back, although we are aware that long tempbans can lead to a player deciding not to ever show up again.
however, what is usually practiced is that a player gets a long ban, says sorry, states his intention not to break the rules again and gets his ban shortened (or for less severe cases even removed).
for anyone else the long ban sort of justifies itself.

sure, so react to a long ban by showing you won't break the rules again instead of going thousand weird ways of trying to justify (or at least mitigate) it. but if you don't do that there is no indication to anyone outside your head that you are actually learning from it. this is how you even turn a temporary ban into a permanent ban. there is no use to allow a player in again who states "i don't care for the rules/don't accept them, never will" by his actions (or words). if we'd be doing that we could as well remove the rules and let the servers become a war zone.

so far the only indication that Cossack knows he was doing something wrong was his statement that he accepts the ban (except that it is too long in his opinion). but that was only an indication and from someone who is really explicit with all his other statements i won't accept that he expects us to read between the lines of his texts.

I advise Cossack to cool off and come back with a clear head. I advise the admins to see this for what it is - He is 17 and this looks like typical behavior for that age. Also prolonging his ban by so much based on the insults / rant on IRC I find a little unjust since he obviously wasn't thinking straight. His judgement was clouded by his anger.

Actually in real life criminals follow into anger management courses and when they show improvement do benefit from a sentence reduction (Not during the first trial though). But that's real life and this is a game.

Yes, i`m sure that anger management is usefull, but not in my opinion. Some people can hold their anger...and some do not...
I think that anger behaviour being forgiven is not fair for people who control themselves. It`s like giving the guilty person a reason to behave like that...saying...oh...poort guy...he`s just angry. But we`re already deviating from the topic.

Since Cossack hasn`t showed any remorse, but yet again trying to impress everybody, I see absolutely no reason to reduce his ban. And yet again think about the fact that 2 admins saw his rule break and he was still denying it. 3 admins saw how he used the trucks to cheat the rating and he is still denying it. I`m sorry but that`s no way to answer from the guilty position in which he is. Understood your advice, agreed with your comment that he has to clear his head. His anger is not my problem. Perhaps it would help you to see how other people face the bans. Check out the other topics in the ban/unban section.

Tip: Take a look at Lacerda. See his attitude before finding out that we`re gonna lift the ban for him. He says he`s sorry, promises he won`t repeat that again and says he`s ready to comply to the rules. And yet again , he didn`t know the rules...it was his first time playing here. On the other side we got Cossack who knew the rules since he was playing here for quite some months...but thought that he can always get away with the rule-breaks.

If u are playing by the rules, we have nothing against you/or any other player. We do not hold grudges and do not put our personal feelings ahead of our admin work... this is my opinion, ofc, but i can say for sure that the other admins will agree with it.
And, if i think a bit...u just met Cossack, or so i think... so u do not know how many times he has broken the rules, or do you know that? did he tell you how many times he had been warned for many ''little'' mistakes?

As you like to remind often it's not a job you do, it's a hobby and i feel that sometimes you all forget that. In the end we all here for fun and games and yes, i admit, i wasn't always fun and games and i know you all resent me for that but you've all got to be honest, we've all had some great times together. some hilarious moments were had and i thank you all for the experience. So, here it is, two and half months of exile. I'll probably spend some time over at BT.pro, it looks pretty soft out there so hopefully i'll be tearing up the opposition once more. Oh, and one more thing before i go; I'll be back. and when i'm back, i'll be back with a bang.

you have apologized for alex taking it personal and you said sorry that you angered alex so much. other than that i have found nothing from you when searching for "sorry", "excuse" or "apologi" on this thread. but this is only one side, what about the rule break? defending yourself is not apologizing.

i am quite sure he is happy for you to run for his cover, but that's an interpretation ("he only did it because he was angry") not even he himself has given so far. and as alex has pointed out i don't see how this would be an excuse either. many players get angry when an admin warns them or even take actions. what do you want to tell us, we should stop warning players?
the only good solution is simple: players shouldn't break the rules, then admins will leave them alone.

it's also a bit paradox to state "admins are watching me and only waiting for mistakes" on one hand and on the other hand doing something you clearly know is forbidden when several admins are on the server. either he has lied about that he really thought he was being watched or he wanted to provoke an action against him so he could act like "see i told you, there is a conspiracy against me". the latter happens quite often btw, the rules are clear but when they are enforced against a player the reaction is often something like "why me?"or "you have been waiting for this", even by players that haven't been on our servers before. next thing they do is try to desperately search for rule breaks other players have made ("why don't you warn him? he is also doing...").

all this is daily business for us, listen to all players who have broken the rules and they will assure you of the personal grudge we must have against them and how we are just evil and randomly mock players.
maybe it could just have to do with the fact that the player has broken the rules? noooooo, everything, but not that!
