Thank you for this very complete response. As an engineer, i fully appreciate the complexity and historical roots of this calculation and also the difficulty of the task. And i must say that you responded « more than enough » to my question.

Concerning the new calculation system, I cannot agree more to the philosophy. Taking into account a lot of parameters, the XP / ELO system… all this is very promising, although it will cost you hours of headache i presume.
I look forward playing under this new scoring system ;-)

Anyway I still have a question about the current system and this cheating problem with CV and « buying vehicles increases CV » :
- Why not simply use bank balance instead of CV ?

Happy that this post sounds interesting to you ;-)

Chucky, you’ve answered to my auxillary questions, but, what do you think about the whole remark ? I mean, don’t you personally (or any player who read this) think  that to privilege long trains is harmful for the diversity of strategies ?

Well, to speak frankly, I certainly won’t change my strategies for a few more point. Whatever happens, i’ll go on trying to find new complex, efficient and beautiful networks, with variety of vehicles, scheduled orders, complex stations with cargo transfer and multi-way railroad crossings…, but I’ll be happy if that discussion leads to a slight enhancement (from my personal point of view) of the scoring system ;-)

So, is there a chance that a modification of the formula (or formulas) could be put into further discussions ?

To enter into more details :
If not erasing any effects of the number of vehicles on the score (which i would prefer), maybe change the number of vehicles (1vehicle = 1 train) by the number of wagons+locomotives. Or, maybe by the number of locomotives (i.e 1 train with 4 locos counts for 4)…

By the way, happy new year to everybody and long live this community !

Hi admins,

I have a remark i'd like to make about the calculation of points. If I understand well, the more efficient we are with our "vehicle usage" the more we get points. i.e less vehicles --> more points  (for the same income)
Well... even if I understand that this is made to avoid overloading the servers with too much vehicles, I find this a bit clumsy on a pure game experience point of view. Let me explain myself :

This parameter encourages us to make very long trains instead of several small or middle length trains. Ok. But railroad networks can be very "efficient" with small trains as much as with long trains or, even better, with a clever combination of small, middle and long trains (by "efficient", i mean the ratio investment/income or simplier : the year income. Just to be sure we agree on that).
Then, while i am not particularly fond of exagerating the number of vehicles in a railroad network strategy, i often need to use some small trains and/or trucks that are almost always integrated in a large-scale network which includes long trains also. But now i know that small trains are bad for a good scoring, i really hesitate before using them...

Conclusion : kwowing that the number of vehicles is important for scoring drasticaly reduces the options, the variety and maybe even the beauty of railroad strategies and networks !!

Auxiliary question 1 : what if i reduce the number of small trains just before reaching the goal ?
Auxiliary question 2 : i don't know the real influence of this parameter on scoring, but it is obvious that my remark is not very relevant if the influence is low (<5%). Can you give us more detail about this part of the calculation ?

So what do you think ?
Thanks for reading this ;-)
